Home is my body
For most people, what we call “home” refers to something extrinsic – a place, a house, a neighborhood, a community, land where family dwells. Home comes with all its comforts and familiar touches, and much focus goes into embellishing this place with “more”.
Home, for me, is my body. Not a place located on land, but rather an internal experience of being. To be “at home” in our body is to intrinsically locate, to love the body. I am here, present to my felt sense experience, awake to sensation, open.
The Universe has gone to immense effort to create sensation. Sensation is the language of direct experience, the portal through which our feelings flow. A beautiful home is a body saturated in the love of being alive, of living moment to moment in the unfolding awe of phenomenal reality. Cultivating this home invokes the gifts of presence, contentment, joys of movement and profound gratitude. Such cultivation also generates capacity, receptivity, adaptability, creativity. No quantity of external comforts can replace consistent intrinsic experience of belonging through our willingness to land in our body.
What would happen to the outer world if we each lived from the inside out? Material comforts would lose their significance, greed would diminish, we would be content with less…..much less. The weight of our external homes does not appear to provide true safety, nor does it seem to ever be enough. Perhaps that is because our sense of belonging and being is not material – it is not quantifiable. It is qualitative.
The more we allow ourselves to land in the body – in sensation, in emotions, in movement – the more we open apertures of resonance. I am not suggesting that being in a body is easy, but it is the intention of being human. We experience through our body…..all that makes up a body. Our body is not just an object, not just a vehicle for the mind! Our body is not something to be fed and exercised like a pet. It is an exquisite vessel of awareness architected for the context of Earth. An incarnational masterpiece, an aria in full-throated expression.
Loving this body may be challenging in a culture that demands adaptation through conformity and obedience, social trends and hierarchies. Becoming aware of when, how and where we sacrifice personal expression and authority for an extrinsic sense of belonging is a process. Over time, we suss out these habits and entrainments, rerouting them to an internal orientation. We listen within – to sensations and feelings. We allow our body to do what comes naturally – move.
Movement is a primordial language of the Universe, and the essence of motion is frequency. Everything speaks with everything in resonance, which is the movement of life. A resonant body is a fluid, receptive body. Responsive instead of reactive. A feeling, sensing wonder of aliveness – alert, aware…..Here….in the body, in unfolding now.
This is authentic embodiment. This is loving our body. Dropping ever deeper into the experience of being alive through the gifts of perception, the talents inherent in the architecture of the body. Inquiry and discovery collaborate in an unending engagement of attention and curiosity. Intuition soars as a resource for direct personal gnosis. Breathing becomes fascinating, nourishing, ecstatic. Repressed emotions surge after being held in dense tissue – grief, rage, pleasure, melancholy, joy - eventually finding equilibrium and coherence in the ocean of human experience.
We are a feeling being, our emotions the song of our incarnate soul. Feeling is living and loving. And LOVE, in this context, is all encompassing – the totality of all emotions, beyond anything compressed into word or thought, but completely known through felt-sense experience. We are designed for this intention. We are the Universe feeling itself through embodied experience. Learning, growing, falling, rising, expanding, contracting – the dance of Cosmos folded in flesh.
It is time to be fully Alive.
Come home to your resonant body.
One whole world of resonant bodies……
